Kids & Curls

Encouraging confidence and self-love

For many curly-haired kids, their curls can become a defining part of their identity. It's crucial for parents to encourage a positive self-image and teach their childeren to love their natural hair. Here are some tips:

Lead by example: Show your child that you love their curls. Compliment their hair and talk about how beautiful and special their curls are. Don't straighten their curls for "special occasions" or pictures. This will teach your child that curls are not fit for a special occasion or not beautiful enough for a picture. Later on in life they will always feel the need to straighten their hair in order to feel beautiful. Rather try different hairstyles on their natural hair.

Educate and empower: Teach your child about their hair type and how to care for it. If they know which products they need and different techniques they can use, this empowers them to take pride in their curls and feel confident in managing them.

Representation: Provide your child with books, movies and toys that feauture characters with curly hair. Seeing positive representation of curly hair can reinforce their sense of belonging and beauty.

Celebrate differences: Encourage your child to embrace all the ways in which they are unique, including their hair. Help them understand that their curls are a wonderful part of who they are.
